Below are some useful tips to use when writing evaluations about your compositions. Consider the three areas - Thinking, Doing and Reflecting as follows:

THINKING (How you started to plan your composition)

	*DESCRIBE THE INITIAL IDEA* OR BRIEF WHICH WAS SET AND DESCRIBE THE PURPOSE OF YOUR PIECE**
	*DESCRIBE THE INSPIRATION* BEHIND THE PIECE**
	*DESCRIBE ANY PREPARATION WORK* DONE AS A CLASS OR INDIVIDUALLY**

DOING (What you did & why)

DESCRIBE HOW YOUR FINAL PIECE HAS EVOLVED

DESCRIBE HOW YOUR INTENTIONS HAVE WORKED IN YOUR PIECESTRUCTURE (Draw a table to show characteristics of each SECTION of your piece)

THE CHORDS USED (why you used them) AND TYPE OF MELODY (ie. shape, particular intervals used etc.)

LYRICS (If you wrote a song � what are they about and how does the music reflect their meaning)

NEW TECHNIQUES / WORDS LEARNT

HOW YOU USED THE ELEMENTS OF MUSIC (you possibly will not need to mention them all)

Length of phrases

Pitch and melody

Rhythm

Instruments

Texture

Speed / changes of speed

REFLECTING (Looking back at you work)

	*VERY BRIEFLY* SAY HOW COULD YOU IMPROVE YOUR PIECE?**
	DO YOU LIKE THE PIECE?
	WHAT DO YOU FEEL ARE THE STRENGTHS?

REMEMBER��.IT DOES NO HARM TO BLOW YOUR OWN TRUMPET!!!

	ALWAYS MAKE A CRAFT COPY FOR YOUR TEACHER TO CHECK
	WORD PROCESS YOUR EVALUATION IF YOU CAN - IT CAN LOOK MUCH NEATER!
	YOUR EVALUATION WILL PROBABLY COUNT FOR AS MUCH AS 25% OF YOUR PIECE!
