"Ambitious for all our students."

The CAPE Faculty (Creative Arts and PE)

The creator of ABC Music Notes works at Twynham School in Christchurch, Dorset. Art, Dance, Drama, Music and Physical Education enjoy a very strong tradition at Twynham. They are a distinctive feature of the School's day-to-day existence whether it is rehearsal, performance or display. Many of our students arrive in the School with a lively interest in the Arts.

Many opportunities exist for students to express their talents and develop ideas. Set pieces like the Festival of Carols at the Priory Church and the Christmas Concert not only celebrate Christmas but the ability of the participants, as does the Summer Concert.

Our annual Musical Production is extremely popular with students and parents alike. Our productions range from "West Side Story" and "Fiddler on the Roof" to "Guys and Dolls and "Fame". The Art and Photography Departments organise displays of student work whilst the Drama Department frequently puts on performances of work from all the key stages.

The Music Department is rarely closed during the daytime. Practice facilities are available at morning breaks, lunchtimes and after School. There are three orchestras, which include the Senior, Chamber and Junior Orchestras, each with performance opportunities in assemblies and in the local community.  There is a Saxophone Ensemble, Sixth Form, Senior and Junior School Choirs, a Dixieland Jazz Band and various other ensembles. The Senior Orchestra regularly plays abroad whilst on tour. There most recent visit was to Venice, Italy.

The Dorset Instrumental Music Service, as well as offering group lessons for most orchestral instruments, also runs the Saturday Music Centre which rehearses at Twynham.

At post 16 we are the Centre for Creative Arts within the Christchurch Sixth Form, offering Media Studies and Photography in addition to our other traditional artistic subjects.

Through our Physical Education lessons and extra curricular activities, Twynham has developed a reputation for success in sport. Students have represented the School at area, county and national level. A former student, Jamie Redknapp, currently plays for Liverpool and England. We have achieved particular success in rugby, netball, soccer, athletics and cross country.

A wide ranging programme of lunchtime, after school and weekend activities operates throughout the year, and students are encouraged to participate in swimming, badminton, basketball and dry slope skiing in addition to those activities already referred to.

Some achieve high standards of excellence but all have an opportunity to be involved in healthy pursuits and develop a commitment to leisure activities.
